"Swat That Fly" Campaign
Description
During the early 20th century, Asheville was a hotbed of medical tourism, and people seeking treatment for tuberculosis would visit to obtain the healing benefits of Western North Carolina’s mountain air and sunshine. One of the principal culprits in the spread of disease was thought to be the common housefly. These cartoons highlight Dr. Lewis McCormick’s “Swat that Fly” campaign to help exterminate the pest.
